The Christmas and New Year's Eve period is best know for its bright lights and musical abundance! Yet this winter something with the same elements but with a whole different outcome drew our attention. We're talking about the work of Them Sculptures. Belgian-Dutch artist duo Tom Dekyvere and Han van der Tol are the masterminds behind light, form and sound projects which they've been designing for several European light festivals.
At the latest Amsterdam light festival Them Sculptures created an installation based on the city dwellers of Amsterdam. After a reflection upon the diversity of a capitol city, Tom and Han came up with the idea of a world within a world. A fairy-like world where several individual sculptures co-exist.
At first sight a very peaceful and worry free habitat, but underneath the obvious surface lies a network of emotions. These beacons of light laugh, scream, talk, cry, play, tease, sing and whisper … In other words a project where the soft and the hard edges of life manifest itself. A place where stories mingle through light and sound, resulting in an atmospheric urban melting pot.
Intrigued? Well, a similar installation will be presented on the market of the German town of Goch on the 16 of February. Can't make it? Don't worry, we also included a video. So sit back, relax and enjoy!
