Graphic designers play an important role in contemporary fashion. In the twenties artists designed invitations for collection presentations and from time to time even a print (remember our article about Belgian couture house Norine), graphic designers nowadays design fabrics, prints, embroideries,… Belgian graphic designer Tom Tosseyn seriously made his mark in the world of fashion. After two years of studying industrial design at the Henry Van de Velde Institute, Antwerp, Tom Tosseyn made a switch to the Graphic Design Department at the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 1998. Three years later Tom became a laureate in art at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Antwerp (HISK).
During his study period Tom used to design already t-shirt graphics, logos, invitations,…but his career in fashion really kicked off in 2002 he moved to Italy to join Diesel’s creative team. Four years later he was recruited by Hugo Boss. After six years of working abroad Tom returned to Belgium. Today he is a freelance designer and consultant for several international clothing brands and high fashion labels.
In 2011, driven by his expanding interest in fashion, Tom independently designed and produced a limited edition of luxury silk foulards, followed by his t-shirt series called TT what he considers just the beginning of a new venture.

As a close friend of the designer, he designed a lot of prints for Raf Simons as well as for Jil Sander. Since it was announced today that Raf Simons will be leaving Jil Sander, the rumours of him going to Dior are getting louder by the day. Underneath you can check out some of Tom’s work and who knows, maybe Tosseyn can soon add the French couture house to his portfolio…
