There are places where you just walk by. Places known by insiders. Mil’s Place is one of those. The tiny Italo-French restaurant in Antwerp is not in the city centre, but it’s not really outside the city either. It’s hidden between typical pubs, galleries and shops in the St.-Jorispoort just across the neo-gothic St.-Joris church. Chef and owner Mil Van Dijck won his spurs in the traditional Italian restaurant Santa Lucia and the Château Corideillan-Bages in Pauillac.

The open kitchen when you enter is immediately very inviting and gives a ‘homey’ feeling. It feels more like a friend’s kitchen where you sit together to chat, to cook and to drink a good glass of wine. The cosy dining room with wooden floors on the first level is great for a candlelight dinner with your love interest. The sober interior is in contrast with the generous plates of rustic cuisine. The I Love Belgium team tried the swordfish with fresh herbs and was blown away by the freshness. No complexity, downright honest food with fresh ingredients. A feast for the taste buds. The dessert came in gigantic portions (I have never seen a portion of tiramisu that big) and with a big smile. A must-go address. Apparently the Raf Simons team (their offices are just around the corner) is lunching here frequently (or getting pizzas when it’s going to be an allnighter at the design studio). Fashion & food. An unbeatable combination.
