The Map of Belgium

I love Belgium has never been a political platform. It’s a platform that promotes creative Belgium whether it’s design, fashion, architecture, art,… But when we were contacted to participate in the Map of Belgium project, we didn’t hesitate for a second.LOVEBELGIUM

The Map of Belgium team wanted to do something positive, fun and crazy to unite Belgians. So they decided to make a Belgian version of the Amanda Palmer music video ‘Map of Tasmania’, where a bunch of girls flash their map of Tasmania, their private triangle, and they asked the best of young, upcoming Belgian talent (both Flemish and French-speaking) to create underwear for the clip. Over fifty Belgian creative souls said “hell yeah!” in the blink of an eye. Also I Love Belgium’s design editor Tom Tack made a very architectural pair of undies. Check them out on the project website, or try to find them in the video of course.

The whole production is Belgian: the underwear designs are shown by the Belgian dancers -the crazy sexy girls of ‘t Schoon Vertier and Les Vedettes-, it was filmed and edited by a Belgian camera crew, the styling was done by Belgian stylists and the girls had flawless make-up and hair thanks to Belgian make-up artist Steven Raes.

In less than sixty days, they managed to create something great and cohesive, regardless of whether we live in Ghent, Liège, Brussels, Menen or Mons. That’s something the Belgian politicians could learn from. Even though Map of Belgium doesn’t aim to make a political statement, it does get you thinking.

Nobody got paid and there is no big corporation or money behind this. Everyone just wanted to bring a positive shout about Belgium. And that’s what I Love Belgium  is all about.
