Attentive followers of I Love Belgium will recognize Léa Peckre’s name immediately. She was part of our Fashion Young Bloods article. And Léa is a busy bee. Not only did she start her own collection, but now she also became the artistic director of De Gris, a French luxury leatherwear house. Read the rest of this entry »

Belgium’s Fashion Young Bloods
With all the hype created for the H&M Maison Martin Margiela collection, people tend to forget that Belgium also has other designers. Yes there’s Dries, yes there’s Ann, yes there’s Raf, yes there’s A.F. Vandevorst,… But there’s a young wolfpack who are doing it for themselves even in difficult times as these. Illustrations by Gaëlle Sutour
“Will work for hair” written down by a dandruff flake to protest against the new Fructis hair shampoo. Look closely to Gaëlle Sutour‘s work and you’ll notice the ironic observations and the canny takes on her surroundings. Being it childlike bird drawings or slightly introspective illustrations (the one on the right side says enough) Gaëlle created for herself a distinctive style. Read the rest of this entry »

Eric Croes’s Watercolours

Watercolours … It reminds the I Love Belgium team of an art technique for tourists: well known buildings, squares and monuments depicted in soft colours. Although pretty and easy for the eye, it isn’t created to evoke deep thoughts. With the discovery of La Louviere born artist Eric Croes, our opinion on watercolours changed! Take a Christmas shopping break
It seems like we are really going to have a white Christmas in Belgium. Snow is falling every day. Belgians are going crazy because of the weather condition (we are used to drive in the rain, not the snow, I bet German or Austrian people living in Belgium are laughing their ass off). This means that Christmas shopping this year is extra stressful because of Belgian people freaking out on the roads. If you’re in Brussels and you want to escape the Christmas shopping rush, enter the smart urban stage on the Avenue Toison d’Or. Read the rest of this entry »

The Reference: Le Chalet Robinson
One of the most whimsical places in Brussels is definitely ‘Le Chalet Robinson’. This restaurant-lounge in the middle of an island in the La Cambre woods (Ter Kameren Bos in Dutch). If you want to go there, you have to cross the lake with a boat. This short trip takes you immediately back into time. You can imagine couples from the beginning of the 20th century walking around the island. Men with top hats wooing women with lace parasols on a perfect Summer day. Having a light lunch or a tea with biscuits in the afternoon on the terrace of the chalet. Read the rest of this entry »
