Fact: Belgium was the first country, in continental Europe, in which the industrial revolution took place. As a result, Belgium is filled with working class houses! These small houses have been transformed (most of them in a doubtable way) through the decades by their respectable owners. Today, young owners opt to rebuild these houses in a more convenient and green way while keeping the spirit of the neighbourhood intact. Images that cling to you like sticky gum: that seems to be the best way to describe work of Karin Hanssen. This artist ‘borrows’ images from the past and recreates them on her canvas. To do that she uses public photographs from after WOII till the late 70s, an era of wealth and plentitude but also of lingering violence concerning the cold war and Vietnam. The Elle Style Awards were organized Wednesday evening the 10th of November (11th of November is a bank holiday in Belgium) at Tour & Taxis in Brussels. They have both backgrounds in fashion, producing, copywriting and much much more. The new MGMT video? You’ll find it there. Behind the scenes of a Kayne West video? You’ll find it there. Pictures from the newest Acne-Lanvin collab? You can check them out there. Knotoryus have been linked by High Snobiety, Cool Cats and Kanye West to do some simple namedropping. At the I Love Belgium offices we felt our heart beating in our throats when we got a a mail from an ELLE journalist. She loved our blog and she wanted to know ho we were and why we did it (those journalists always want to know everything). So I was a good boy and answered all her questions. And next thing we know, I Love Belgium is ‘blog of the month’ on the Belgian ELLE site!

Elisabeth Ouni is a Belgian model who’s got it going on. Not only is she strutting her stuff in front of the camera, she also knows her way behind the camera. The Ostend born beauty is traveling around the world to interview and photograph her favourite hip hop stars with her polaroid camera. You can follow her hip hop city hoppin’ on her blog ‘No balls, no glory; a polaroid story’. It’s amazing what she does to chase and shoot the likes of Theophilus London, Jazzy Jeff (The Fresh Prince of Bel Air anyone?), Skillz, Baloji (former member of the Belgian hip hop crew Starflam), SA RA, Eve,…but she never gives up. Big ass bouncers, pretentious door bitches or snotty PR people watch out, she’s ready to rumble and she’ll not leave before she has taken her precious polaroid.
