Stefan Schöning at Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition

One of the most inspiring exhibitions during the Milan Design Week was Wallpaper* magazine’s  ’Handmade’ exhibit in collaboration with Italian luxury fashion house Brioni.

Exhibited over four floors of the Brioni house in Milan during Salone del Mobile, the exhibition was dedicated to the marriage of craftsmanship and design. Acting as patron, client and creative director, Wallpaper* commissioned their favourite designers, artists, craftsmen, makers and manufacturers to create unique furniture, fittings, food stuffs, fashions and more.

Contributions from the likes of Peter Saville, Industrial Facility, Amanda Levete, Roland Mouret, Barber Osgerby, Andreas Engesvik and Matteo Thun were on display. Belgium’s Designer of the Year 2008 Stefan Schöning was featured amongst the great of the earth. His ‘Folder Chair’, a collaboration with Belgian luxury leatherwear brand Delvaux, is not a new piece, but it fitted perfectly in the spirit of the exhibition. It’s handcrafted, authentic and definitly a timeless piece.

Unique about the exhibition was the fact that everything was on sale. Wallpaper* created a giant vending machine containing first of all (free) Wallpaper* magazines, but also boxes with – I guess so, because I didn’t buy anything at the exhibition – vouchers to purchase any item of the exhibit. The I Love Belgium team never saw a vending machine containing products that cool!
