It’s almost time: the fashion shows of the academies are just around the corner. We’re excited but also very curious. Sometimes you just can’t wait until the show! We’re delighted that we can reveal a tip of the iceberg by presenting you this promising talent graduating from the academy of… Ghent.
Michael Von Der Crone already caught our eye with his previous collection Deliver us. A menswear collection that was very strong with beautiful volumes and an interesting color scheme. Telling the truth: to us it looked like a graduating collection. Michael knows how to fully present the looks he has created. Surrounding himself with the right people he manages to lift his work to a higher level.
For his new collection: Knockin’On Heaven’s Door Michael wanted to create a sophisticated collection with a minimalistic design. Like the I Love Belgium team has a thing for floors, Michael has a thing for ceilings. He was inspired by photographs of vaulted ceilings in European churches by David Stephenson. These are very geometric and have an ephemeral and charismatic feel to them. And this ephemeral characteristic really shines through in his clothes. Michael himself describes it quite well: “they revoke a tranquil sensation one feels when entering a religious building”. Knockin’ on heaven’s door indeed! Although Michael uses strong shapes and lines resembling the structure of the churches themselves, the materials and the cut bring out a softer side. What stands out are the marvelous and unexpected shapes that seem to arise from the clothes. Mission accomplished: this serene collection will bring you to higher realms.
Michael Von Der Crone already had some interesting experiences. He did his internship with Viktor&Rolf no less, where he translated their sketches to 3D designs. And that’s what Michael seems to want, to get the experience he needs in international companies. In September you can find Michael in Paris, never a bad place to be for a designer and for next year he signed up to do an internship at Mary Katrantzou in London. But with his talent we’re not surprised he’s also dreaming of his own label. So thumbs up for Michael!
