Need some fun and creative work so why don’t you kidnap your designer! This is the motto of Kidnap Your Designer, a graphics design agency created by 2 young and madly talented Belgians Caroline Dath and Damien Safe. Their studio based in a green courtyard in the bustling Antoine Dansaert area in Brussels is specialized in experimental works. They use different typographies and printing techniques for clients in the fields of music, culture and architecture.
Each time, they managed to develop a graphic design off the beaten track around a concept to question or interact with their viewers. What made their work so unique is that they usually link the visual aspect of an idea with its semantic meaning or giving a famous quote a new twist on a variety of graphic elements such as postcards, posters, t-shirts banners and video.
Their latest initiative in Brazil “Faixas Aqui” was really innovative and outstanding. They displayed photographs of “faixas” literally hand-written banners in Portuguese that are usually hung up in the streets of Brazil, placed in 30 different symbolic locations split between Brazil and Belgium. The banners showed the sentence “It’s better here”refuting the popular saying “The grass is always greener on the other side” translated into 4 languages, Portuguese, French, Flemish and English.
The great idea is that visitors of this exhibition could also take part in their work by imagining other places that encourage them to travel. Want to know more? Our inspiring designers will open their doors during Design September on 16 and 17 September.
