A colorful, fun world with a strange twist: that’s the amatic world of Philip Bosmans. We’re talking about a graphic designer with a history in graffiti and street art. But what’s so special about his art is that it combines the raw edge of street art with a bubbly and bright atmosphere. Time to discover his strange universe…
First thing that came to mind when we saw his work was the Happiness Factory commercial of Coca Cola. You know, the one with all the little characters and animals showing the wonderful life inside a Coca Cola machine. But where Coca Cola only focuses on love and happiness, Bosmans adds something else. His fantasy world has been invaded by violence, darkness and even sex. Not really what you expect in such a poppy scenery!
Instead of giving you a free ticket to escape this world, Bosmans lets real life make its way inside his work. This gives you an alienated feeling and makes you linger longer when looking at his surreal paintings. The dualism between the poppy fantasy world and the real life roughness is what makes his work captivating and what provides for a more meaningful way to interpret the images. Sometimes we need that pull back into reality…
