Frederik Vercruysse (1974 – check out a self-portrait he did for Architectural Digest Germany on the I Love Belgium facebook page) is a Belgian photographer based in Antwerp. He combines architecture, interior, still life and portrait photography. Creating images with spaces, furniture, people, plants, clothing and other objects in a fresh, graphical and realistic but sometimes also in a surreal way.
You might have seen the amazing pictures he took of Belgian beauty walhalla Senteurs d’Ailleurs (you just want to have one of the beam-me-up-scottie machines to go to Brussels instantly when you see those pictures).

I’m sure you all read that Belgium is gracing the cover of the current Wallpaper issue as one of the 10 design nations in the world, well Frederik took 6 portraits Belgian designers featured in the April issue in the Ampersandhouse in Brussels.
If you would be heading to Antwerp one of these days, be sure to check out Frederik’s exhibition at Graanmarkt 13 together with stylist Dimitra Apostolidis (16.03-30.04, Graanmarkt 13, 2000 Antwerp). The result is a series of graphic and architectural compositions in which the objects, garments and packing material are placed out of their daily context and are ‘reduced’ to elements where the final picture takes priority over the objects. Call it abstract photography if you like, and we like!
