No, there’s no civil war going on in Belgium due to the current political crisis (Belgians grow up with them, one more or less will not make the difference). De Invasie (The Invasion) is a platform bringing together young designers from Belgium and The Netherlands. The platform is first of all a webshop where every ‘warrior’ (that’s how they call their designers) can sell his or her designs. “Mmm, that sounds a lot like Etsy,” we could hear some people say. Well, the difference with Etsy is that before you become a ‘warrior’, your designs need to pass the design test. A professional jury (stylists, journalists, curators) selects if you are fit enough to go to battle. According to the organizers Yves Drieghe and Bert Pieters, two out of three do not make the selection. And taking a first look at the selected warriors (furniture design, fashion, graphic art, ceramics, fresh cooks, photography,…) the jury has made some excellent choices!
But De Invasie is not only an online platform. De organizers wanted to make this platform also tangible. That’s why they invade different cities with their warriors. They started out in Bruges (a huge success, people were lining up to get in) and now they’re invading Brussels where their hideout will be the square in front of the Recyclart. De Invasie of Recyclart will be on three (hopefully) hot summer nights: Friday July 9th, Friday July 30th, Friday August 20th (each time from 18.00 to 22.00). A unique opportunity to buy exclusive items straight from the designer. I Love Belgium will certainly pay them a visit and is loving these designs already…
