Due to legal reasons (there are only certain periods in Belgium in which stores, brands or designers can organize sales), the term ‘stocksales’ can’t be used anymore. So they became ‘contemporary fashion days’.

Whereas the stock.. euhh contemporary fashion days used to be very underground, only the incrowd was in the know when and where they were organized, today they are part of the very clever city-marketing of the city of Antwerp and very well communicated and supported by the Flanders Fashion Institute. I would be lying if I didn’t feel a little regret about the fact that these seasonal sales have become so commercial, but I believe it’s a logical evolution since fashion has become much less elite than a few years ago. Big shot designers are designing collections for mass market brands and people mix and match much more. Designers brands feel more comfortable next to mass market brands and mass market brands try harder to be fashionable. It all comes together.
