Sometimes we mustn’t forget to put young talent in the spotlight. This time we’re proud to present: Trui Chielen. Unbelievable how some people can accomplish so much at a young age. Trui is a graphic designer and was already published two times in children books. In 2010 she was one of the winners in the ‘Good for Publishing’ competition of Flemish Illustrators. A lot of potential in that one, we say! Let’s take a look!
It may well be that some of Trui’s designs give you mixed feelings. On the one hand they look very joyful but on the other hand they give off a slightly sad vibe. We think it’s because of the melancholy that’s hidden in her work. The drawings and posters remind us of our youth and how it was to be so free and without worry. They’re very retro and represent rather playful scenes. The figures seem to float in the air, they have nothing to hold on to. And although many of the drawings are very colorful, Trui kept them rather sober. On top of that they seem to breathe out a special kind of naivety. Throughout all her illustrations Trui continues to use childlike elements. This gives her work real spontaneity and a true-hearted flavor. A contribution we can only encourage.
Do you like what you see? Trui also makes very original cards. Could be a nice idea for your birth cards! We’re convinced that Trui has that special point of view that will carry her far in the world of illustration. Floating between dream and reality her drawings are mesmerizing. And most importantly they bring out the child in all of us!
