A surreal launch

Belgium is the land of surrealism, avant-garde and also…good music. So if you ask Belgians to launch a car you will get this: a great party where the car to be launched is not even there! I can imagine some frowning when you read this, but it’s really true. ILOVEBELGIUM

To launch the Range Rover Evoque in Belgium, the UK car brand called the boys from the notorious Kitsch Club in Knokke (the Belgian version of Le Baron in Paris), the Belgian light designers Dark and Belgian fashion couple Filip and An Vandevorst. It was obvious from the start that a traditional car presentation was not an option”, said Bart Roman (Kitsch Club), “Rock ‘n roll, exclusive, hard to get in are key words. Very hard to get in!” But the I Love Belgium team got in and we witnessed  a spectacular wire-frame of the Range Rover Evoque branded with the A.F. Vandevorst logo in neon letters. The wire-frame was still covered and when all the beautiful people arrived and  the party was banging and bouncing the “Evoque” was unveiled and lit up.ilovebelgium

The Kitsch Club boys flew over Paris’ new prodigal son The Aikiu and mobilized their friends from Mustang (AKA Renaud Deru together with Andy Faisca) to get the party started. And what a party it was, beautiful uptown people mingled with trashy downtown people. Skinny jeans danced next to tartan blazers. The perfect representation of Belgium: a hot trendy mess (now we sound like Paris Hilton). The Range Rover Evoque won’t appear in the showrooms until Autumn this year but a few Belgian A-listers could already test-drive the Evoque, the self-proclaimed “smallest, most economical and environment friendly car Range Rover ever produced”. Check out A.F. Vandevorst’s, Bent Van Looy’s and Valentine Van Gestel’s drive through Brussels.
